Saw something on Sen. Ted Cruz’s Facebook page that got me typing… and after days like today where I sat and watched as our Senate sold out every American’s Constitutional 2nd Amendment rights to the special-interests and lobbyists (again). It’s either this, my writing, or I might succumb to start drinking… this is certainly less fattening.
There is SO MUCH that should NOT be happening today in our America… this country we grew up in appreciation of and respecting, this country that I served in the Navy for, this country, this REPUBLIC that we all love so dearly.
We have equated it to watching someone you love a great deal, dying. Think of the grandparent, the parent, the spouse, the child, the dear friend, we all have those we have deeply loved. Now consider that loved one dying, dying in a bed from cancer. We are able to stand by and talk to the doctors, we pray, but nothing, nothing we do, no matter how much we want it, can save our loved one. If only we had paid attention to their symptoms, if only we had gotten them to the doctor at the first signs, perhaps something could have been done. But now, the days seem short, we are told there is little hope for recovery.
This country has been suffering for years from the deadly cancer of apathy and it appears everyday we grow less and less willing to fight it, but fight it we must. We must fight this insidious cancer from every direction. We must fight it on Facebook, Twitter and in the press. We must fight it in the halls of Congress, hoping those few left there with the leadership, integrity, courage and principles to fight can prevail. We must as citizens get educated, then educate others and then EVERYONE vote.
Will you let this precious loved one die without doing EVERYTHING you can to prevent it? Are you willing to commit your life, your fortune, your sacred honor to preserve, defend and protect our Constitution and our Republic. If you haven’t decided this yet in your mind, if you haven’t made that ultimate commitment yet, I would ask you when? When are you going to be willing to step up and say no more? When are you going to throw open the windows, stand in the streets, yell at your friends, your loved ones, “I’m mad as hell and I’m NOT going to take it anymore”. We recently lost Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, I remember him famously saying, “There are many things still in this life worth fighting and dying for, not the least of which is your freedom”.
I love quotes, here is one of my favorites for those of you who have not heard it before or maybe not recently, it fits perfectly to make my point.
“If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.” – Winston Churchill
